winner Michael L. Turnbow is the general manager of the Tennessee
Valley Authority (TVA) Inspection and Test Organization. He is responsible
for NDT, quality control, metallurgy, chemistry, equipment performance
testing and instrumentation engineering services for TVA’s power
plant fleet. He has been certified by ASNT as a Level III in four
methods since 1977. He has been involved with numerous ASNT committees,
is the past chair of the Nashville and Chattanooga Sections, has been
a member of the ASNT Board of Directors and served as president of
the Society in 1995–96. He is currently the director of ASNT
Region 6 and a member of the Standards Development Committee, serving
as the US delegate to ISO TC/135/SC 7 and convenor of Working Group
7 for the development of international NDT personnel qualification
and certification standards. He is a recipient of ASNT’s Fellow
Award, Tutorial Citation and Mentoring Award. He is also the current
chair of the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) Integration
Committee, responsible for the oversight of the EPRI NDE Center in
Charlotte, North Carolina. The Center provides services, research
and development to the electric power industry.
