ASNT Fellow Award

2008 Winner Ronald L. Brosio

Ronald Brosio is a quality engineer at Aerojet in Sacramento, California, where he has been employed since 1998. He has also served as a quality engineer for Verticom, an ISO manager for Pauli and Griffin, an NDT specialist, NDT instructor and manager of the NDT Division at the Mare Island Naval Shipyard, and a manager, inspector and radiation safety officer at Testing Engineers, Inc. Brosio served in the US Army from 1963 to 1965. He received his bachelor of science degree from Southern Illinois University in 1976, and a master's degree from the Consortium of California Universities and Colleges in 1977. Brosio studied NDT at the US Navy's Mare Island Naval Shipyard, and holds Level III certification in ET, LT, MT, PT, RT and UT.

Brosio has been an active member of ASNT since 1968, and has been particularly involved with the Golden Gate Section, which he has served as secretary since 2006, president from 1978 to 1979 and 2003 to 2004, vice president from 2003 to 2004, and chair from 1979 to 1980 and 2004 to 2005. Brosio has also been involved with the American Society for Quality since 1973, and served as the president of the Redwood Empire Section of that organization from 1996 to 1998.

2008 Winner Kirsten Green Lipetzky

Kirsten Lipetzky has worked as a materials engineer at the Naval Surface Warfare Center Carderock Division since 2000. Before that, she was an associate research scientist at Johns Hopkins University's Center for NDE from 1996 to 2000. She received her B.S. in materials science and engineering from Johns Hopkins University in 1987, and an M.S. degree in materials engineering from Brown University in 1989. Lipetzky received a Ph.D. in materials engineering from Johns Hopkins in 1993, after which she did postdoctoral work as a faculty research assistant at the University of Maryland at College Park until 1994. She received an M.S. in engineering management from George Washington University in 2007.

Lipetzky has been an active member of ASNT since 1996. She served as chair of the Chesapeake Section from 1998 to 1999, vice chair from 1997 to 1998, and secretary from 1996 to 1999. At the national level, Lipetzky has been a member of the Research Council since 1997. She has also been a member of the American Society for Testing and Materials and the American Welding Society since 2001.

2008 Winner David S. Morgan

David Morgan has just recently started working as a quality assurance specialist and lead NDT Level III at the NASA Glenn Research Center in Cleveland, Ohio. Before that he worked as an engineering specialist in quality assurance and NDT at Meggitt Aircraft Braking Systems in Akron, Ohio since 1985. From 1966 to 1985, Morgan worked as an NDT technical specialist at Babcock and Wilcox in the Nuclear Equipment Division, and from 1967 to 1970, he was enlisted in the US Navy. He received his bachelor's degree in business management from Hiram University in 1986, and has taken numerous NDT courses, beginning in 1971. Morgan holds ACCP Professional Level III certification in MT, PT, RT and UT, and ASNT NDT Level III certification in ET, LT, MT, PT, RT and UT. Morgan has been an ASNT member since 1977, and an active member of the Cleveland Section since 1983, serving as secretary, treasurer, vice chair, chair, director and Section Level III.

2008 Winner David L. Spooner

David Spooner has been a consultant since 2001 for companies including Wartsila Defense, Si-Tech, Munson NDT Consultants and Luna Innovations. Prior to this, he worked as an NDE supervisor at Mid Atlantic Tank Inspection, NDE Level III for Dominion Resources Virginia Power, manager of NDE services for Virginia Corporation of Richmond, senior NDT technician and power plant mechanic for Virginia Power, piping designer and draftsman at J.J. Henry Company Naval Architects, and nuclear quality control inspector at Newport News Shipbuilding and Drydock Company. He served in the US Navy from 1955 to 1965, where he learned skills in machining, basic nuclear engines and nuclear operation. Spooner holds ASNT NDT Level III certification in MT, PT, RT and UT. He has been a member of ASNT since 1980, a full member of the Certification Management Council from 2002 to 2008 and chair of the Hampton Roads Section from 1995 to 1996.

2008 Winner Sharon Vukelich

Sharon Vukelich has been a member of ASNT since approximately 1984. Prior to 1992, she was involved in the Miami Valley Section. She was the 2005-2006 ASNT president, and has served as a member of the Board of Directors as well as an officer of the Technical and Education Council and as a member of the Research Council and the Section Operations Council.

Vukelich is presently a distinguished research engineer at the University of Dayton Research Institute. At the Institute, she is working with nondestructive testing of aging aircraft and propulsion systems; she continues as a leading expert on the USAF Engine Structural Integrity Program. She retired in January 2003 after 21 years as the chief of the Advanced Engine Projects Integrated Product Team at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. In this capacity, she managed 19 engineers. She was a primary author of the NDE reliability standard used by the military. She has a B.S. in aerospace engineering from the University of Michigan and an M.S. in aerospace engineering from the University of Cincinnati. She has worked as an aerospace and NDE engineer for over 30 years.

2008 Winner Paul Zayicek

Paul Zayicek is a project manager at EPRI, and has been employed there since 1996. Prior to working at EPRI, he was a senior technician at J.A. Jones Applied Research Com-pany from 1981 to 1996, and worked at General Electric Company from 1976 to 1981. He graduated with a bachelor's of science degree in business management from the University of Phoenix in 2006, and has an associate's of science degree in electrical technology, which he received in 1976. Zayicek has been a member of ASNT since 1979, and has been active in the Charlotte Section, serving as secretary/treasurer (1996 to 1997), vice chair (1997 to 1998), chair (1998 to 1999) and on the board of directors (1999 to the present).
