2008 Winner Ward D. Rummel
ASNT
Fellow Ward D. Rummel was honored with the Philip D. Johnson Honorary
Member Award at the 2008 ASNT Fall Conference and Quality Testing Show.
Rummel is president and trustee of D&W Enterprises, Ltd., a consulting
service specializing in NDT engineering, materials science, industrial
process quality assurance and failure analysis. A longtime member of
ASNT, Rummel was named Outstanding Member of the Colorado Section for
1970-1971, and was named a Fellow of the Society in 1976. He was a member
of the original committee that established the ASNT Level III certification
program and wrote original examinations as well as served as proctor
for examinations in Korea, Taiwan and India.
In 2002, Rummel received ASNT's Robert C. McMaster Gold
Medal Award. In 2003, he received the highest civilian award the United
States Air Force Materiel Command bestows, the John W. Lincoln Award
and Gold Medal. He is the only NDT professional to be recognized with
this award. Rummel recently received the Colorado Engineering Council's
Gold medal, being cited "for his exemplary contributions to the
profession of Engineering and in particular to Materials Science and
the development of non-destructive testing methodologies." Rummel
retired after 35 years of service with Martin Marietta (now Lockheed
Martin) in 1996. He is an Honorary Fellow of the Indian Society for
Nondestructive Testing and was selected to deliver that organization's
first Distinguished Honorary A.K. Rao Memorial Lecture in 2006.
